Bagazzano Vineyard, an oasis in the hills of Zola Predosa in the Province of Bologna

The Vineyard in Bagazzano: the wisdom of time-honoured techniques
The vineyard, shaped like an ancient amphitheater, appears to embrace the main buildings – the Cantina or winery and the Agritourism. Set on a sunny hillside the vineyard covers 20 acres of bluey-red clayey soil.
High density planting using spurred cordon – 5000 wine stocks per hectare – with a yield of only a few bunches each vine – “just one bottle from each vine” – ensure quality, well- balanced and enjoyable wines. Traditional Chestnut poles are used to support the vines. Medieval texts show that the Benedictine monks from the Abbey in Nonantola – landowners in the area since 1000AD – used chestnut poles rather than mulberry or elm to support the vines.
Our grapes are hand harvested only and during the harvest, from the end of August until the beginning of October, rows of grape pickers cover the hillsides, adding colour to the vineyard.
Sauvignon and Pinot Bianco and other red grapes
The main area of the vineyard is dedicated to the production of Sauvignon and Pinot Bianco. The red grapes are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and the local Barbera.
Respect for nature and the environment produce a healthy grape and a quality which never disappoints. We have for years been following the CEE directive (Reg. CEE 2078/92 e 1257/99) on agricultural production methods, ensuring we are compatible with all requirements for the protection of the environment and the maintenance of the countryside. A traceability system ensures we have complete control over the whole production chain and our wine is analyzed before distribution.
